Cooke USA employs approximately 225 people throughout the state, most of whom live and work in Washington County, and celebrated its 20th anniversary of aquaculture operations in Maine in 2024. Cooke USA’s Atlantic salmon operations include marine farm sites in Downeast Maine, a processing plant in Machiasport, and three land-based freshwater hatcheries in western and eastern Maine. Additionally, Cooke USA purchases more than $10 million in goods and services annually from Maine-based small businesses, contributing significantly to the local economy. Cooke USA’s fresh Atlantic salmon is sold at supermarkets and restaurants throughout New England and the United States. Farming Atlantic salmon in the ocean is one of the healthiest and most efficient ways to provide food for people with minimal environmental impact, the lowest freshwater use and one of the lowest carbon footprints of any animal protein. Misty Mountain Farm
Space #:  55/57
Renee Brown

Website:  Misty Mountain Farm

When we first visited Maine, I was so excited to make a gift basket for family and friends back home that included all things Maine. One of the items I wanted to include was a blueberry soap. Afterall, I had blueberry muffin mix, blueberry syrup, a blueberry candle – it would perfectly round out the assortment. Every blueberry soap I found smelled amazing, BUT had an ingredient list that read like a science experiment. Needless to say, I didn’t include a soap in my basket. It seems that if you care about what you put on your body and the ingredients you use, your options are very limited. So, when we ended up buying a farm in Maine and making soap with the fresh milk from our goats, I went on a mission. My mission was and is to provide bath and body products that smell amazing AND have ingredients you can pronounce. Ingredients that not only make wonderfully nourishing products that are beneficial for our bodies and the world we live in, but products that are also beautiful and bring joy to our senses. Our products use herbs and clays like chlorella algae, kaolin & bentonite clay, and indigo to produce beautiful colors that also have healing benefits for our skin. While we do use essential oils and herbs in many of our products, we also include paraben and phthalate free fragrance oils. These more natural oils allow us to make a Wild Maine Blueberry line so that other health conscience consumers can finally have a blueberry soap to include in their gift basket!  Misty Mountain Farm is women owned and operated by my daughter and myself. We own 40 chickens and 20 goats. Our animals have names and are our pets. We use our farm and our products to help bring awareness that animals should be treated with the love and respect they deserve. Our company has also committed to being palm free because we believe that environmental decisions also impact the lives of animals. We are a holistic farm that uses herbs for healing both ourselves and our animals and hopefully others as well!

I make al natural creams, salves, salves and tinctures.  The process starts by harvesting the fresh herbs/plants either in my medicinal garden or around the state. To make my creams and salves I hand pick the flowers, berries, roots, or leaves from the plants/herbs and add them to oil.  Weeks later the substance is strained leaving an oil which is used, along with a preparatory blend of other ingredients to make my products.  Tinctures, known as “old medicine,” are made by adding the flowers, berries, roots, or leaves to Vodka or Brandy, which draws the healing properties out of the herb.
